Our Container Home
My husband and I have bought a piece of farm land and are gearing up for the start of a project that has been in our hearts for a few years now. We have a small pile of shipping containers we've been collecting and are almost ready to break ground to create a living space from these vitually indestructable, water-tight steel containers.
My Father-in-law/contractor has been researching this style of sustainable living for years and has been itching to put this building theory into practice. This concept for us is perfect because we want to exist in a way that is agriculturally and environmentally responsible. We want to create an enviroment that is no fuss, practical and non-traditional. Plus, has the added bonus of having the ability to go off grid in the case of the zombie apocalypse. (Aim for the forehead.)
Without giving too much away now, we have a few really special features we are going to add that makes me super impatient to get started! I want to document our progress as I've had a lot of interest and inquiries already. I will be answering some of the following questions & more:
"You want to live in a steel box?"
"Are you doing anything to the walls?"
"Will the bank actually agree to give you a loan for this?!"
Yes, these are your actual questions. I will answer them all in due time! For now, we wait. There have already been months of prep work; all the "adult" stuff that has to happen before you can build and not get yourself arrested or fined. It's the important, but not-interesting-enough-stuff to make a post over, like surveying, obtaining the deed, soil samples, filling in ditches to obtain road access, etc. Yawn.
In the mean time, I am rejoicing that we got the land we prayed over. For nearly a year we prayed for this land. When we got word that we could buy it we were overjoyed. Here a new chapter for us begins.
Please note my husband working the tractor and my mad machete skills. How hard can this possibly be?
